Our Present

hhdl_rinpoche_1999In 2005, the Dalai Lama appointed the Venerable Arjia Rinpoche as new director to lead the organization in its next phase. Since he has been in Bloomington, Rinpoche has worked hard to remodel the Cultural Building, Kumbum Chamtse Ling, and the Teaching Pavilion. In addition, he oversaw the creation of a Great Gate at the entrance to the property.

Arjia Rinpoche has been active in creating strong bonds with the larger Bloomington Community by interacting with officials of the City of Bloomington, Indiana University, and creating friendships with other faith traditions - particularly the Dominican Friars at St. Paul Catholic Center.

Presently, Rinpoche is involved in making plans to establish "Kumbum West" and provide a more complete array of traditional monastic activities and services at the temple. In additon, the TMBCC is embarking upon the establishment of programs of instruction in English language, Tibetan Buddhist Arts, Tibetan Translation, Tibetan medicine, and Buddhist philosophy.

Our present programs are two-fold in nature: cultural and religious. Our cultural programs include our annual events such as Losar Celebration, Commemoration of Tibetan Uprising Day, Mongolian Nadam Festival, Tibetan Summer Camp, Mongolian Summer Camp, Benefit Performances for Tibetan and Mongolian Youth, and Tibetan and Mongolian Art Exhibits. In addition, we put on special programs at the request of community organizations, Tibetan sponsors, and Mongolian sponsors.

Each Tuesday, Wednesday we have Yoga classes at 6:0 p.m.to 7:30 and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
