Tours of TMBCC

We offer guided tours of TMBCC for adults and children from Thursday to Sunday. All tours start at the Temple/TMBCC.  Please call in advance for group tours by calling the temple at 812-336-6807. 

Availability:

  1. Thursday: 10 am - 5 pm; 

  2. Fri: 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm.

  3. Sat. & Sun: 2:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm.

Tour:

  1. TMBCC History including its place in Tibetan Buddhism and the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism, and its founders, Abbots and teachers including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Tagster Rinpoche, Arjia Rinpoche, and our spiritual teacher Geshe Kunga and their connections with Kumbum Chamtse Ling Temple, in addition to the introductions of the statues, deities, Buddhist Thangka images, and ritual objects found on the altar.

  2. Monuments, including The Stupas (Jangchub Chorten) symbolizes “the enlightened mind of the Buddha"; the Kalachakra Stupa which symbolizes “world peace and harmony”; Sand Mandala (a Tibetan art form. Taught by the Buddha in 500 BCE); The Prayer Wheel (Mani Korlo); The Pagoda; The Pond; The Main Gate; The Kora Trail; Prayer Flags; 

  3. The teaching images in the Temple: The Wheel of Causality and the image of Dependent Arising and Path of Mind Training & The 9 stages of Mental Development (Lam Rim); The meaning behind the image of The Wheel of Life/ The Cycle of Existence, which represents Samsara the cycle of existence, the Buddhist view of the universe a cycle of life, death, rebirth, and the suffering we seek to escape; The meaning behind the image of the 9 stages of Calm Abiding meditation. (Regarding our mind, from negative to positive to liberation and enlightenment. This portrait is very significant and is in all Tibetan Buddhist Monasteries. 

  4. Explanations of iconography of thangkas, shrine, the thrones, the text on beams, the ornamentation and colors. 

  5. We welcome all visitors to learn about Buddhism on our tour. Having an open mind can make the experience even more fulfilling, for both adults and children.

  6. At the end of the tour, please feel free to sit for meditation and/or prayers.

Other Weekly Schedule:

  1. Teaching on Sunday at 10 am.

  2. Pujas (prayers) on Saturday at 10 am. 

  3. Meditation on Wednesday 6 - 7 pm.  

  4. Retreats and events throughout the year.
